What are the main foot release mechanisms of safety stirrups?
Most safety stirrups feature a removable or flexible outer branch that allows the rider’s foot to quickly release from the stirrup in the event of a fall. This is the case for brands such as Freejump, Flex-On, BR, Acavallo, and Horsena.
There is also a patented system from Rid'Up that detaches the stirrup from the stirrup leather during a fall.
Finally, Ophena stirrups are open on the outer side and operate using a magnetic sole attached to the stirrup tread.
